Many of us have observed remarkable improvement in a particular child or adult thanks to the positive effects of Brain Gym. For sharing your story with us, Train the Brain is offering two prizes: each a $50.00 discount toward a Brain Gym course fee. If you have already taken the BG 101 course, you are eligible to repeat for half price and I will deduct an additional $50.00. One paragraph with sufficient detail will do. Two winners will be selected from short essays received by July 1st, describing an example of dramatic positive Brain Gym results.

Last year Kathy Cartwright was selected for her account of how using Brain Gym® at her school helped her students:

"I'm doing a Brain Gym Representatives group once a week at the Warren Community School. Students from Kindergarten through 6th grade come to learn the Brain Gym exercises for 15 minutes and take them back to their classroom to share with their class. There are usually more than 20 children each week, and many come each week. I try to tailor the exercises to whatever is going on at the school. When we had MEA testing, we did exercises to help with test taking. When we had Japanese week, we did exercises to support creativity. Since district writing prompts have begun, we have been doing the writing exercises. Several teachers have allotted time for Brain Gym everyday in their schedules and one had told me she is convinced that her students are doing better because of it."

WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Revised, fantastic BG 101 Manual

We're excited to report that finally an updated version of the Brain Gym 101 manual is available. The new manual contains great photos and lots of helpful information. They will be available to those to attend Train the Brain classes or you may order one from the website, www.braingym.com BG 101 Manual Cover

Recent brain research of interest

More and more research is coming out about the benefits of movement for brain and body health. The Brain Gym® model is consistent with the latest findings in neuroscience, which validate that new neural pathways grow when we move with intention.

Parkinson's Disease Helped by Brain Gym

Joanna Shaw, Licensed Brain Gym Instructor in Oregon, wrote an inspiring article documenting her work with Parkinson's patients. Many symptoms were reduced following a series of Brain Gym sessions. Once again Brain Gym is found to be a simple and non-invasive alternative to the Deep Brain Stimulation that is cited in brain publications.

TRAIN THE BRAIN NEWS

Dr. Svetland Masgutove came with her husband Piotr Hawryluk and taught courses here last July and again in January. See www.masgutovamethod.com for a description of her work. It is called the Masgutova Method of Neuro-Sensory-Motor and Reflex Integration. During their visits Svetlana and Piotr (Peter) treated over 50 children and adults "with challenges." The class participants included many OT's, other therapists, Brain Gym folks and parents. Both students and patients came from as far away as the Midwest and Canada. Because Svetlana's work is so effective and unique in the world, she and her husband are world travelers, as you can see from her website. Svetlana is a catastrophe specialist and took charge of the children after Chernobyl and after a double train disaster in Russia in 1989. Train the Brain will be offering the basic course "Integration of Infant Dynamic and Postural Reflex Patterns" again next April 2009 in Portland, Maine. This time it will be taught by an extraordinary teacher, Pam Curlee, who has worked with Svetlana and Peter for years and also teaches this course around the world. See her bio on the TTB website, www.trainthebrain.biz. This link should take you to the "Courses and Events" page.

WHAT'S HAPPENING

Beth Stoddard continues to teach introductory workshops, BG 101 classes and manages a private practice. If you would like to brush up on your Brain Gym skills and learn about the new Brain Gym research, you may retake BG 101 for half price with any licensed Brain Gym Instructor. As always, she would be delighted to come to your school or place of business to give a presentation on Brain Gym or to offer a "refresher".

LOOKING AHEAD

A "new thing" is happening. Two large school districts have asked Beth to teach Brain Gym movements to their entire district, one this fall and another next year. Beth is very excited about having the opportunity to offer something that helps everyone, teachers and students. And no special tools are required!
